Debora Crichton - Handbag & Accessory Desginer
Debora Crichton worked for 20 years in the commercial aircraft industry in Los Angeles, where she pursued her first love – making things. As a Director of Engineering at McDonnell Douglas, she did make things - big things like airplanes! But her management job was not sufficiently “hands on”, and did not allow room for much creative expression. So she devoted her spare time to designing and crafting toys and handbags in her home workshop. Many of her creations featured her dogs, Max and Zak.
While at work, and on business trips, Debora always carried pictures of her dogs with her: “home is where the hound is!” One day it occurred to her to put Max’s picture on her bag, rather than carrying it inside. The response was amazing! “People chased me down the street, demanding to know where I’d found my bag! One woman even jumped out of her car at a stop sign! That’s when I knew my bags had real appeal.” Initially Art Bags featured popular dog breeds, but the line quickly expanded to include classic and contemporary art images.
Today, Debora lives and works in Connecticut. She continues to add images to her high quality art bags and accessories. Through her licensing agreements with art museums, fine artists and photographers she offers a collection to women who enjoy making a statement with unique handbags and uncommon accessories.
