Fine sculpture and furniture designed and handmade by John Keyser
Metal Sculpture, Wall Decor, and Furniture
John earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the
prestigious Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. He pursued a
Masters of fine art degree from the University of New Mexico. While in
graduate school, John was awarded the first one per cent for art commission
in Albuquerque, a thirteen-foot sculpture on the University of New Mexico
campus. He continued to create public monuments and was awarded several
private commissions. In 1986, John created two six foot bronze whooping
cranes for the entrance to the Rio Grande Zoological Park. The popularity of
Keyser’s public works sparked interest by private collectors.
John
R. Keyser, Inc. is a recognized and acclaimed name in the decorative furniture
industry. Success is a product of the craftsmanship and quality in John’s
distinctive designs.
Living in New Mexico, John acquired the spirit of the
southwest. John adopted a “hands on” lifestyle. He built his own solar house,
maintaining respect for the land and resources. John rekindled his boyhood
passion for horses. He trained, roped and ranched. As his family grew, he
became more involved in the schools and community service. He gave art classes,
helped build the local library, and coached soccer for his daughters and
later, at the local High School.
From his home in Corrales, John can look east to the Sandia
Mountains and then west to the volcanoes and mesas. Inspired by the southwest
landscape, his interest turned to the rich history of the area and a
fascination with the petroglyph images and their universal context. Rich
textures and the integrity of these subjects are crafted into antelope and
horse herd sculptures, mirrors, tables and chairs.
John R. Keyser is celebrated for his copyright
Dancer series. John’s gift for design captures the whimsy, grace and contour
of the female figure. This image has been incorporated into a line of
candleholders, furniture and sculptures.
From his studio in Corrales New Mexico, the artwork is cut from sheets of steel by a state of the art
opti-graph computer that follows Keyser’s hand drawn designs. Each piece is
filed, finished and lacquered to John’s high standards of quality. His work is enjoyed in private collections across the country,
